Interview with J J Devine | Author of Like Father Like Son & The Lair

Interesting interview of John Devine, the author of  "Like Father Like Son" & "The Lair".  Read the full interview and see what's the our favorite writer told about his writing passion and his interesting books..

Q : How would you describe yourself in one word?

Imaginative

Do you have a specific reason or reasons for writing  " LIKE FATHER LIKE SON " , Can you please tell us a bit about the book?

I had a bit of a mental breakdown and I was writing dark stories on Facebook and someone said I should see the doctor, who said I was suffering from a bit of depression, he suggested to write out my feelings each day and then I started writing poetry for people in work and then I started writing the book from an idea I had, I wanted to write something that was set in my hometown for me and my readers

Q : Can you please tell us a bit about the book?

Like Father Like Son is about Joseph Houston, a New York lawyer who gets a call from back home, his dad Joe Houston has had a fall, but his dad is the Godfather of Blantyre, so he had to go back to Scotland to find out what was going on

Q : Can you please share with us your experience to writing this book?

When I started writing the book I had no plan, plus it was the first time I'd ever tried to write a book, so I was just writing, but I put it aside and when I came back to it I had a plan, a list of characters, points in order that the story would take place. And then the writing started it was such a buzz and exciting. It still is may I say

Q : Who’s the most important character of THE LIAR ?

The most important character in The Lair is Joe Houston, as he was the father and boss in Like Father Like Son, The Lair is the prequel, so we are seeing Old Joe and his life as a boy and growing up in old Blantyre and how he became the Godfather of Blantyre

Q : Is there anything else you would like to tell us about your book?

The Lair available on amazon on paperback and on kindle

Q : Any upcoming book?

I'm writing a book just now it is still based in Blantyre but the main character is new to the first two books, it's a book about family, loss and revenge. Some of the characters from The Lair will make a small cameo but that's all it is. This book is about a new family, who people from Blantyre will recognise. It's exciting and gritty. The future I have coming are a series of detective books with a character who works in Hamilton in Scotland and he is a friend of Joseph Houston, will this be a hinder

Q : What do you do when not working?

When I'm not writing, I'm working in an office, but when I was able to before lockdown, I used to enjoy karaoke and holidays to sing international karaoke lol

Q : Where do you see yourself in three years from now, or where would you like to be?

I see myself hopefully leaving my job and writing full time, that would be heaven for me. Getting up to a hot coffee and writing my next masterpiece

Q : What is your favourite quote?

My favorite quote is, better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it (wow hope that doesn't make me sound shallow lol)

Q : Finally, if you could pass on a single piece of advice to authors out there reading this interview, what would it be?

I would say to someone who is thinking about writing, do it, there is no other feeling than seeing that first book of yours and then to hear what people think of it, it's amazing, everyone has a book in them. Do it

A Bold Tale of Justice and Empowerment, The Amazons and Other Stories In the realm of storytelling, few collections manage to strike a balance between gripping drama and deep societal commentary like Richard Dyer’s The Amazons and Other Stories. This book is not just a series of narratives, it’s a powerful exploration of female strength, resilience, and the pursuit of justice. Through its main story, The Amazons, and six other diverse tales, the collection address’s universal themes of identity, love, trauma, and survival. DOUBLE CROSSED AND UNRAVELED by Kelsey Carlee

This memoir recounts the relationships that a young Kelsey experienced, such as how her whole world got turned upside down when she met Howie. It touches on her complicated relationship with her mother, and how the love she developed for Cole nearly cost her life.  The plot makes a full circle from when the author was younger to the adult version of herself, as she grieved the loss of her mother and had to look back at the past to be able to call things what they really were. This book chronicles the author's unraveling through poetry, letters, and recollection as an outlet to heal her past traumas.  Double Crossed and Unraveled is for every survivor of neglect and abuse. It touches on domestic violence, PTSD, sexual assault, complicated grief, addiction, and recovery. It’s easy to get lost in this "riveting" story that's difficult to set down once you begin reading. https://a.co/d/aBAoWDU
